Georgia was one of the first countries to welcome digital nomads, and its Remotely From Georgia programme is still one of the simplest visas in the world. It lets non-citizens live and work remotely from Georgia for up to 12 months, and the application is fully online with no embassy visit required.
To qualify you need to be a remote employee, a freelancer, or a business owner whose work is done online. The income requirement is $2,000 a month, or $24,000 a year, which is far lower than most European digital nomad visas. You must also show that you can support yourself for the duration of your stay and that you have health insurance valid in Georgia.
The documents are straightforward: a valid passport, proof of remote employment or self-employment, proof of income for the last six months, and travel health insurance. Freelancers should prepare client contracts or invoices that show regular remote income, and employees should have a letter from their employer confirming they can work remotely from Georgia.
The application is submitted online through the official government portal. You fill in the form, upload the documents, and wait for a decision, which typically takes about ten business days. If approved, you receive an electronic confirmation, and you can enter Georgia and stay for up to a year. There is no visa fee for the application itself.
Once you are there, Tbilisi and Batumi are the main hubs, with a growing coworking scene, fast internet and a low cost of living. Georgia also offers a generous tax position for many remote workers, and citizens of many countries can enter visa-free for up to a year anyway, so check whether you even need the programme before applying. The visa is best understood as a formal route for nationals who do need permission, and as a clear legal basis for a long stay. Always confirm the current rules on the official portal before booking flights, because immigration rules change.
